Medellin, Colombia - Rick Rule of Sprott Asset Management is the keynote speaker at the 2017 Colombia Gold and Copper Symposium taking place on November 14th and 15th at the Hotel San Fernando Plaza in Medellin, Colombia.

The Colombia Gold and Copper Symposium is rapidly establishing itself as a must-attend event for participants in the mining and exploration sectors in Latin America interested in the gold and copper potential of the northern Andean region.

With over 250 people forecast to attend this year, delegates will see over 15 exploration and development companies talk about their projects including development stage projects companies Minesa (private) talking about the Soto Norte gold project in Santander, Continental Gold (TSX: CNL) presenting Buritica, Metminco (ASX: MNC) talking about Miraflores, Red Eagle Mining (TSX: R) San Ramon and Antioquia Gold (TSXV: AGD) talking about Cisneros.

CGS2017 also features a meaty session on the copper potential of the region, which is attracting increasing interest from large producers as well as explorers, particularly given the increasing copper price environment. The session features an overview of Colombia’s copper potential from Gloria Prieto of the Colombian Geological Survey (CGS) and the future round auction round of copper exploration concessions.

Atico Mining (TSXV: ATY) will present about the volcanic massive sulphide deposit potential around its El Roble mine whilst Cordoba Minerals (TSXV: CDB) will provide an update about exploration at its San Matias project that has potential for being district-scale. Solgold (TSXV: SOLG) will talk about the copper and gold potential of northern Ecuador at its Cascabel project that has elicited interest amongst majors, and Minera Cobre (private), a company formed by the founders of Red Eagle Mining, will talk about the potential of its extensive land package in the Murindo copper belt.

In terms of Colombia’s gold potential, Orosur (TSXV: OMI) will provide an update about the Anza project where it recently restarted drilling, Gran Colombia Gold (TSX: GCM) will discuss the high-grade mineralisation it is finding at its Marmato project and Tim Coughlin of Royal Road Minerals (TSXV: RYR) will talk about exploration in Nariño, one of Colombia’s most promising areas now that the civil conflict with the FARC is ending.

Colombia is not without its operational and regulatory issues and CGS2017 features presentations by Silvana Habib, president of the National Mining Agency and Santiago Angel of the Colombian Mining Association on the efforts to improve sector administration. The regulatory session will also include a roundtable discussion by leading natural resource lawyers of strategies for companies to adopt to deal with particularly aspects of bureaucracy.

Regulatory issues are but one class of challenges that mining faces in the region and obtaining the social license to operate often eclipses all others. CGS2017 will look at strategies that can help companies turn potential threats into opportunities, with Birsa International talking about optimizing community relations, INTERA will talk about responsible water management and communication, Brigitte Baptiste of the Humboldt Institute on under what conditions mining is compatible with the environment and Control Risks will talk through the issues and opportunities Colombia’s peace process brings for natural resource companies.

A key element of CGS2017 is the field trip programme, and this year sees visits to San Matias (Cordoba Minerals), San Ramon (Red Eagle Mining), El Roble (Atico Mining), Buritica (Continental Gold) and Anza (Orosur).

Mining and exploration occur within an investment context, and CGS2017 includes the participation of several experts to share their thoughts on the investment and capital markets environment including Canadian bank CIBC, Peru’s Kallpa Securities, EY, Oreninc and NortonRose Fulbright.
